How to revert back to previous version of Skype

NewImage.jpg

Skype 5 looks like it has some UI improvements, although many seem to disagree, but it’s almost three times as memory hungry as the previous version.  I need that like I need a hole in my head, as my granny used to say.

  • Skype 5.0: 178 MB memory usage
  • Skype 2.8: 67 MB memory usage

And as usual, it’s nigh impossible to find any useful information on the Skype website.  If you want to downgrade:

  1. Delete the Skype.app from the Applications folder
  2. Download the old Skype version here

  1. I downloaded the old version of Skype for my old G4 with mac os 10.4 but it does not work: ‘not recognized’.

  2. THANK YOU. That was one of the worst upgrades for any software ever. it was horrible!!! thanks so much! xx

    ” YEAH… EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING!

… Oh .. . GREAT…… bloody new world order skype is having to go and install the latest skype itself… wonderful!

  4. Thanks for the article! The new skype was such a disappointment. Since I use linux, my Skype updates are rare and left in the dust. For once I’m relieved that Skype neglects updates for Linux, if Skype 5.1 is what they’ll bring to the table. My mom uses a mac, so I opted to reverting her Skype to the older versions.
    Thank you so much!
